Resources About Cosmetic Dentistry: Finding the Right Dentist for You

Finding the right dentist for you

Dental care is a very personalized service that requires a good relationship between the dentist and you, the patient.

You may want to consider several dentists before making your decision. Write down your questions in advance, then call or visit the dental office. Take notes on the answers you get. During your first visit, you should be able to determine if this is the right dentist for you.

General Considerations:

  1. Does the dental office offer an appointment schedule convenient for you?

  2. Is the dentist located near your home or office, or are you willing to travel to visit the right dentist for you?

  3. What are the policies regarding fees and payments?

  4. If you have dental benefits/insurance, inquire if the dentist participates in your dental program.

  5. If you have any special needs or health conditions, ask if the dentist has experience with your condition.

  6. Is there emergency service for after hour care?

When visiting:

  1. What is the atmosphere of the dental office?

  2. Do you feel comfortable with the dentist(s)?

  3. Does the office appear to be clean, neat and orderly?

  4. Was your medical and dental history requested and recorded and placed in a permanent file?

  5. Is the office pleasant and well-run?

The more comfortable you feel with a dentist, the office, and the policies, the more likely you are to find a dentist you like and trust as well as maintain good oral health.
