Not long ago I was showing pictures of me as a kid to my children. It was
great fun, until my daughter asked me what all the shiny stuff was in my mouth. They
wanted to see if it was still there. It was.
As a child several cavities in my molars had been
filled with metal fillings, those that look like silver fillings. Some had cracked and
were replaced when I was an adult, but they were replaced with metal fillings as well.
After this conversation with my daughters, I
decided to ask my dentist if there was anyway to hide or disguise my fillings. This wasn't
something I was going to ask friends about, it was just too embarrassing after that talk
with the kids. I knew my dentist was a cosmetic dentist as well as a regular dentist, so I
felt comfortable with his suggestions.
He explained that composite resin fillings,
colored fillings, would match the color of my teeth perfectly, and probably last longer
than the metal fillings. I agreed to them right away, and he even did some tooth bonding
on my front teeth to give them a better shape at the same time. It didn't even cost much.
If you have metal fillings, look into this.
