About Dr. Bernie Villadiego
Dr. Bernie Villadiego has practiced dentistry in the San Fernando Valley for over 15 years. He received his DDS degree from Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1989 and went on to complete a general practice residency program at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center. He established a private practice with an emphasis in esthetic and reconstructive dentistry in Chatsworth, California in October1993.
An expert in the field of cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Villadiego has taught the doctors at the Esthetic Professionals Dental Education Center in California, where he is a clinical instructor for the Advanced Fixed Prosthodontics and Occlusion residency programs. He has also completed continuums at the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education and the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study.
Dr. Bernie Villadiego has earned the accredited member status with the
American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a much sought-after and coveted
professional credential that is realized by very few in dentistry. The
accreditation program is a lengthy and challenging process. In fact, Dr.
Villadiego
is one of only 286 dental professionals in the world to have achieved this
prestigious designation. It demands years of practice, education and
testing,
and is the highest accreditation achieved in cosmetic dentistry.

A caring nature to give back to his community, Dr. Villadiego is a participating dentist for the national Give Back a Smile program, providing aesthetic dentistry to victims of domestic violence. His expertise and techniques are regularly featured in the news. He has appeared on television shows such as “Ask the Expert” segment on Fox 11 News and has appeared in an international Colgate commercial.
The pursuit of excellence has earned Dr. Villadiego’s dental practice the Office of the Year award by Clifton and Associates in 2007 and was voted as the Best Cosmetic Dentist Gold Winner by The SFV News in the San Fernando Valley, California.
Our Philosophy of Practice
We have transitioned from
patchwork/repair-oriented dentistry to a philosophy of ideal optimal health
and wellness. We believe in developing better relationships with our
patients, so that we can personalize care to the unique needs, wants, and
values of each individual.
In years past, we spent most of our time patching, scraping, drilling, and filling. Although we provided good repair service, it seemed something was missing. We observed many patients who later returned with still more gum disease and tooth decay. In spite of our diligent efforts, some patients were not getting healthier.
We learned our frustration was not due to lack of interest or dedication, but rather a failure to focus on education, motivation, nutritional counseling and behavior change. Dental school gave us excellent technical training…but training focused on repairs and mechanics! Through a course of study, we were taught about building relationships with people and getting our patients involved in their own health care through behavior change and nutrition. We learned convincingly that health is directly related to active participation.
People always tell us they want a healthy, pain-free mouth, and to keep all their teeth for life. But we also believe that people want…NO DENTISTRY- no fillings, no crowns, no root canals, no gum surgery, no needles or injections, and no need to come to the office every 3 months! People want freedom from the dentist, and they would like to spend their time and money elsewhere.
How can we help our patients get what they want-a healthy smile that feels good and lasts for a life-time, and no dentistry? First, we believe the answer lies in education, and encouraging our patients to take the responsibility to care for themselves. We hope our patients will think health first- something they can give themselves- and any treatment/repair second.
Our second responsibility is to deliver optimum ideal dental treatment to our patients. If we can help our patients to get their mouth healthy first, then we have time to fix their teeth so they have the least chance of needing repair again. If disease is controlled, and breakdown is stopped, treatment can often be phased over time. Our patient can choose to restore their mouths with durable, long lasting and aesthetic restorations, rather than making hasty repairs as they need replacement.
Most dental offices are repair centers that focus on a short-term fixes. Patients often become frustrated and disillusioned about what dentistry can do for them. We believe in treatment that will last many years longer than silver or plastic fillings. This philosophy allows our patients to be free from repeated patchwork dentistry. Freedom from dentistry is what we all really want. Working together we can help our patients keep their teeth for a lifetime!
