Subject #132: Female Patient
Procedure: Extreme wear and small, undersized teeth resulted in a
stressed, tight look to the skin and eyes of this otherwise pretty patient. Limiting
treatment to front teeth would not have solved the problem. Complete mouth reconstruction
was essential to restore the proper vertical dimension to her facial structure. By
precisely lengthening all of the teeth with porcelain crowns, her bite was
"opened" and the distance from her cheek-bone to her chin was restored to
its ideal length. Her soft tissues now drape differently across the skeletal support
underneath, resulting in a more relaxed, youthful appearance. The benefits of greater jaw
comfort along with her new-found joy in smiling, actually accomplished a change in mood
and attitude for this patient. For years she had suppressed the urge to smile in order to
hide her worn teeth. Now she looks for opportunities to smile and enjoys the confidence of
knowing her smile is one of her finest assets. Since she has a habit of grinding her
teeth, this patient now wears a custom fitted bite guard as "insurance" for her
gorgeous new smile.
